Transfer News: Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, West Ham, Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Barcelona, Juventus, Eintracht Frankfurt

Football News and views transfer list you can read this article. Who offered 2.9 million GBP? Who offered 4.3 million? Who currently plays for FK Teplice?

Things are quickly turning from bad to worse to full-on intolerable with Barcelona and Ronaldinho, the rumors of him leaving the club for AC Milan are picking up speed. Ronaldinho hasn’t been in World Player of the Year form this season, and he’s falling further and further out of Frank Rijkaard’s good graces, with a recent reported blow-up from manager to player on the latter’s lack of effort potentially being the breaking point.

You’d like to think that, instead of letting him continue to sulk on the sidelines and allow the situation get to the point of no return before too long, Barca would do the smart thing for both sides involved, and take the big money to let someone else have to worry about him.

As for who they could go after if they choose to cash in on their falling star, according to Sport.es, Arsenal’s Alexander Hleb is high on Barcelona’s want-list. Hleb has been in fine form for Arsenal thus far this season, and all indications are that he’s quite happy where he is, so now that he’s fully making good on Arsenal’s investment in him, Barcelona might have to pry him from Arsene’s hands with the jaws of life (get it?).

Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have beaten out Juventus (how many times will you hear that one?) for the signing of highly-rated Czech forward Martin Fenin. The 20-year old Fenin, who currently plays for FK Teplice, starred in the Under-20 World Cup this summer, scoring three goals, and that caught the eye of several top clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool. But, it came down to Juventus, who offered 2.9 million GBP, and Frankfurt, who offered 4.3 million, the club owner’s daughter and the chance to make an immediate impact, with playmaker Albert Streit being offloaded to Schalke six months in advance.

Speaking of Juventus targets, I’ve mentioned their interest in Liverpool’s out-of-favor Momo Sissoko, but the Bianconeri are reportedly looking at another Liverpool midfielder as well, as a representative from the club was sent to Anfield to inquire about Xabi Alonso’s availability, along with Sissoko’s.

Juventus are courting quite a few midfielders right now, and you can add another one to the list that already includes Sissoko, Alonso, Diego, and Van der Vaart-o, as Arsenal’s Gilberto is supposedly Claudio Ranieri’s number one target above them all, according to Corriere dello Sport. Silva hasn’t been a big part of Arsene Wenger’s plans this season with Mathieu Flamini being ahead of the 31-year old Brazilian in the pecking order, and with the Gunners having more young midfield talent in their ranks, the time appears right for Gilberto to move. If he does, he would likely be the cheapest option out of their current targets, thus making him all the more attractive.

Speaking of Van der Vaart, he is openly lobbying for a move to Juventus, but will he get it? Chelsea have their eye on him as well, and if turns into a bidding war and not a matter of where the player wants to go, well, you know how things usually turn out when it‘s Chelsea vs. someone else in a cash-splashing battle. But, the Old Lady’s got plenty of money stashed away in her dresser, so they may not be too concerned about Chelsea’s entrance into the fray.

With defense currently a concern for Tottenham, Juande Ramos is looking at reinforcement options, and one of them appears to be Middlesbrough’s Jonathan Woodgate. Woodgate seems to have put his injury issues behind him, and with him being a vital part of Boro’s push for safety, Gareth Southgate might be reluctant to let him get away, especially within the same league.

Boro likely wouldn’t let him go for less than what they paid for him, Ramos might have to do some selling to do some buying, and one player who could go is striker Darren Bent. Bent has scored five goals this season for Tottenham since his big-money move from Charlton, but has been in and out of the starting lineup, and he could be on his way to West Ham, who he turned down this summer in favor of Tottenham. Best of all for Alan Curbishley, he could get Bent for much cheaper than he would have in the summer, as reports say a bid of 10 million could reunite Bent with his former manager from his time at Charlton.

Tottenham also have Chris Gunter in their sites, and the Cardiff full-back moving to Tottenham is more of a certainty than any other transfer news mentioned so far in this article (except maybe for that club owner’s daughter bit). Gunter’s done his medical and now Cardiff are trying to figure out how to make shitloads of money off him so they can go into January with money to burn (on Premier League rejects, one thinks, but who knows?).

Inter Milan vs. AC Milan - Head to Head Record, 1994-2007
2007-08 Serie A Match Record :

Football news today the ‘Derby della Madonnina’, Italy this weekend the history shall rock the city of Milan and tradition shoved deep down in the ground; for on Sunday a chasm shall be constructed distinctly in Milan and volcanic eruptions are guaranteed.

If you think that this is a meteorological forecast ridiculously being rippled across on a football blog site, then you are utterly, utterly wrong. Instead, this is a lookahead to the Derby della Madonnina, the Inter Milan vs. AC Milan derby, that is set to storm to the center-stage in the Italian Serie A on Sunday.

This is a derby that is almost a hundred years old, a derby that would’ve never opened its eyes upon the light of the world if there had been no wrangling over the signing of foreign players; a derby that over the rapidly flowing years has come to be relegated to second (maybe even third) place in Italian football (the Derby d’Italia i.e. Juventus vs. Inter, is now firmly established as the most important match in Italian football calendar). But when Internazionale (or more affectionately, Inter Milan) and AC Milan lock horns at San Siro on Sunday there will no dearth of passion, spark, fire and rivalry at all.

Massimo MorattiThe history of the two clubs is paradoxically intertwined into one. Milan were established way back in 1899 and were absorbed in nationalistic ideals so much so that they wouldn’t allow any foreign player to don on their colors. This kindled a rift inside the club and those in favor of the induction of foreign players into the side broke away and formed Internzionale in 1908 and the city of Milan has been torn apart into two fragments since.

Silvio BerlusconiMilan traditionally are the people’s club, a club that has supported by the working class people in southern Italy. On the other hand, Inter are the bourgeois club, an aristocracy that has been blessed by the rich hands. But over the successive decades, such a distinction in terms of economic class has broken down. Indeed, Italian President Massimo Moratti is a oil tycoon while Milan is owned by the billionaire and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Yet a cluster of Milan supporters still come from the working class background while Inter fans still do perceive their Milan counterparts as basically inferior to them in almost all sectors. The ultras (or, “ultrà” as they are called in Italy) are there from both clubs but their actions and recognition are much allayed by the reputation of the clubs. Even so, violence and trouble at the Milan derby have been frequent.

The ugliest incident of violence cropped up in the 2nd leg of the 2004-2005 UEFA Champions League Semi-Final match at San Siro. Milan were leading the match 1-0 (and 3-0 aggregate) when Inter supporters decided to get themselves thick into the action. Bottles and coins started being rocketed onto the pitch, flares started flying onto the field and Milan custodian Dida was hit with a flare on the back of his shoulder and the often crippled and almost always paralyzed UEFA at last convened to investigate into the violence in Italy.

Dida's incident in the 2004-05 Champions League match vs. InterThus security has been tightened at the San Siro for the clash and thee are one or two signs that trouble might be hatched during the course of 9 minutes. And the main perpetrators could be Inter Milan players in not so much as instigating the crowds to go wild as in pissing on even more frustration on the Milan unit. This is technically a home match for Inter and the bulk of the 83,000 crowd will be Nerazzurri fanatics and should the Inter players gallop on with their ruthlessly breathtaking form, then Milan will be in deep, deep trouble.

Inter are the current Serie A leaders with 40 points from 16 matches and are 7 clear of their nearest challengers, who are not AC Milan. Inter Milan have won the last 5 matches in the league and have won 7 of the 8 Serie A matches they have played so far at San Siro. The Nerazzurri have also kissed the ball 35 times into the back of the opposition net and with strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Julio Ricardo Cruz scoring 9 times each.

Ibrahimovic and Cruz, a lethal striker pair for Inter MilanMilan have 3 games in hand but that can’t let them escape with any excuse for gathering only 18 points all season. The Rossoneri have won just 4 of their 16 matches and have lost 3, scoring just 20 and conceding 10 goals. But even more disturbingly, Milan have yet to register a win at San Siro this season.

All these data, facts, figures and statistics lead you by the hand to last season’s circumstances. Inter Milan won the scudetto last season in so dominating a style that most bookmakers have placed money on Inter to win the Italian championship this season too. Inter’s record breaking 17 consecutive wins in the Italian top flight was highly hailed by all football pundits although question mark hover dangerously over their playing style.

Zlatan, Cruz, and FigoInter might have been the best team in the Serie A last season but they weren’t the most entertaining side—AS Roma and AC Milan were. This time around too, Roberto Mancini has sacrificed style at the altar of substance and neutrals do complain the lack of aestheticism in this immensely efficient Inter side. In fact, only Ibrahimovic and Luis Figo are the only entertainers in this Nerazzurri squad and with Figo’s absence through injury, the Swedish mercurial striker has been the lone flagship of good football.

But at least Inter are winning and at times winning by drilling in 4 goals (4-1 against Roma and Genoa and 4-0 over Torino) and if Milan can do half as much, manager Carlo Ancelotti would be more than just glad. Just like last season, the Rossoneri have had their title hopes evaporated into thin air like volatile hydrochloric acid right from the world go. Just like last season, Milan have struggled for goals.

Just like last season, Milan’s best player has been the world’s best player Kaká who is also their top scorer in Serie A with 7 goals. Just like last season, Milan have failed to strengthen their aging squad in the defense and the frontine. Just like last season, Milan in 11th are struggling for a Champions League berth.

And everyone would be hoping for a 7-goal thriller in the first Milan derby of 2007-2008, just like last season. Inter won both Derbys della Madonnina last season but their 4-3 victory in the first act was a sensation, the best match in Europe along with that Lionel Messi-inspired 3-3 El Clásico drama in March. Milan and especially Kaká played with flair and intensity but Inter’s superior bench strength, young legs and swift counter-attacking moves aided by some comic Milan defense won the Nerazzurri full 3 points and if you follow the formbook, then you would certainly be putting your money on an efficient Inter side which Juventus manager Claudio Ranieri described recetly as a machine.

But as the severely tortured cliché has it, when there’s a derby at stake, the formbook flies out of the window, leaving not so much as its dirty underwear behind.

Pachuca won the 2007 CONCACAF Champions Cup

Pachuca earned a place in the 2007 CONCACAF Champions Cup by claiming their domestic league’s Clausura title in 2006. Pachuca defeated Marquense of Guatemala 3-0 on aggregate in the quarterfinals, and, after dropping the first leg of their semifinal tie against MLS side Houston Dynamo 2-0, a 5-2 extra-time triumph sent them through to the final, where they faced fellow Mexican side Guadalajara. After drawing 2-2 and 0-0 over the two legs (the competition doesn‘t use the away goals rule), Pachuca won 7-6 in a penalty shootout to claim their second Champions Cup crown.

League champions, 2007 Asian Champions League winners

The Urawa team boasts a few players with experience in Europe‘s top domestic leagues - midfielder Shinji Ono (Feyenoord), defender Nene (Hertha Berlin, Sporting, Vitoria), midfielder Robson Ponte (Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg), and forward Washington (Fenerbahce), with Nene and Washington also seeing time with the Brazilian national team during their careers.

AC Milan won 2006/2007 UEFA Champions League

AC Milan weren’t even supposed to take part in the 2006/07 Champions League, after their alleged involvement in a Serie match-fixing scandal, but after a successful appeal lightened their punishment and allowed them to be in the competition, the Rossoneri rode that break (it also doesn’t hurt to have a squad full of superstar talent) all the way to their 7th European club title. They captured the crown by defeating Liverpool 2-1 in the final, gaining a measure of redemption after losing a 3-0 lead in the 2005 final and subsequently going down in a penalty shootout to the underdog Reds.
This is their first appearance in the new FIFA Club World Cup, but they will be looking to add to their three Intercontinental Cup titles (1969, 1989, 1990). The ageless Paolo Maldini will be looking for winners’ medal #3, as the legendary defender was a part of the 1989 and 1990 Intercontinental Cup winning sides, but contrary to what you might be thinking right now, he was not playing in 1969 when they won their first one.

Football News-Transfer stories in the Premier League surround Chelsea and Manchester United.

If Turin-based Tuttosport is to be believed, then they are virtually assured of joining hands once more, this time under the Juventus banner. The newspaper states that Juventus and Chelsea have stuck a deal over the England international player and the player would be transferred in the summer. Ranieri, the Tinkerman, is currently the manager of the Serie B champions and it was the Italian who signed Lampard from West Ham United in 2001 when he was the manager of Chelsea. The newspaper has even gone on to report that Lampard himself has agreed to the deal should his annual wage be raised be raise from $8 million a year to just over $9 million.

The Barcelona-Ronaldinho-Chelsea tug-of-war continues as press speculation mounts on Ronaldinho’s career at Camp Nou. But this time the player himself has come out of the blocks and remarked that he wants to stay at Barcelona and that he and his brother, Roberto de Assiss who also acts as his agent, are looking for an extension to his contract.

The Brazilian international playmaker who recently won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award and is also expected to rack up the FIFA Player of the Year award is unfazed by suggestions that Real Madrid would launch another bid very soon. Kaka says that he prefers to concentrate on the football matter at hand, which is winning the Club World Cup that is taking place in Japan.

So it looks like it’s a take-it-or-leave-it scenario and to leave Manchester United altogether.
